Lee Miller the rebel
Passionate, rebellious and beautiful Lee Miller was a women of her own mind. Having been expulsed from several private schools in upstate New York, she threatened her parents to pose nude for a famous New York fotographer if they didn’t give her a ticket to Europe
She was already well-known in the New Yorks fashion world where she had modeled and worked for Vogue. At the same time she frequented and attended classes at the Students Arts League. She looked like a fashion model, tall and strikingly beautiful but her styled blonde hair and classical features masked her passionate, rebellious nature.
She arrived in Paris in search of adventure and a more liberated lifestyle and immediately’ chased after ‘ Man Ray the painter, filmmaker, photographer .They met by chance in a Paris Cafe. That was the beginning of a long collaboration.-
In Paris Lee became Man Ray’s model and collaborator . It was here that she established her own photographic studio, often taking over Man Ray’s asignments. Like many artists, including Rita Kernn-Larsens mentor Fernand Leger, many of the photos taken by Lee Miller were actually attributed to Man Ray.
She was an active participant in the Surrealist mouvement, amongst her many friends were Picasso, Paul Eluard and Jean Cocteau,
